Villarreal could sell Manchester United target Pau Torres for cut-price fee in summer 2023
Manchester United target Pau Torres could be sold by Villarreal in the summer of 2023, according to La Razon (h/t Manchester Evening News). The Spaniard’s current contract expires in 2024.
Torres has been associated with a move to the Old Trafford side for the last two summers. And the Red Devils are once again being linked with the 25-year-old.
The Spain international will have just one year left on his deal with the Yellow Submarine next summer. And the La Liga outfit will be forced to negotiate a fee less than Torres’ €65 million release clause.
United have a host of options in defence for Erik ten Hag to choose from. The Red Devils currently have an established partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.
With the Argentine and French centre-back in the back-four, United have not lost a single game this season. The Dutch manager put faith in the duo after the horrible 4-0 loss to Brentford.
Ten Hag’s start in the Old Trafford dugout started on an abysmal note. The Old Trafford side lost the first two games of the season. We got off to our worst start in the league in 101 years.
However, the Dutch manager seems to have quickly remedied the issue. Harry Maguire has been dropped to the bench and United have won four games on the trot in the Premier League.

Our captain has not seen a lot of game time in the 2022/23 campaign. Similarly, Victor Lindelof has not played much. And with Martinez and Varane performing the way they are, it will evidently be challenging for those on the bench to get into the starting XI.
Torres is an experienced defender. It remains to be seen whether the centre-backs on the fringe will remain at the club in the future. However, if the likes of Maguire and Lindelof do leave, the Villarreal star is an option to add to the squad.
