Juventus along with Manchester United keeping an eye on Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann
Manchester United have been joined by Juventus in the race for Antoine Griezmann. The Serie A giants are keeping an eye on the French forward’s situation at Atletico Madrid, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Sun).
The 31-year-old is on loan with Los Rojiblancos at the moment. However, Diego Simeone’s side will trigger a buy option that has been included in the deal with Barcelona if the French forward plays certain minutes for them.
Thus, Atletico have started to deploy Griezmann mostly after the hour mark. Los Rojiblancos are doing so in order to avoid paying the Blaugrana £35 million for a permanent deal. As a result, the French forward has started just once this season.
This has opened the door for clubs like United, who are interested in the 31-year-old. The 2018 World Cup winner is also on the radar of Juventus.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side have gotten off to a disappointing start in the 2022/23 campaign. The Italian giants sit eighth in Serie A. And the Old Lady are looking to get reinforcements in January.
Griezmann rejoined Atletico in the summer of 2021 from Barcelona. However, the French forward has not been able to produce the numbers he registered in his previous spell at the Madrid-based club.
Last season, Griezmann played 36 times for Atletico in all competitions. The 31-year-old was only able to register eight goals and seven assists.
United only signed one player to bolster the attacking line in the recent transfer window. Antony reunited with Erik ten Hag in Manchester as he joined the Red Devils from Ajax. However, the club could evidently do with more options in the forward line.
