Transfer News: Manchester City confident of completing a move for Jude Bellingham ahead of Manchester United
Rivals Manchester City apparently believe they are in pole position to complete the signing of Jude Bellingham ahead of Manchester United next summer.
The 19-year-old is one of the most sought-after midfielders in the world currently. Last week it was claimed that Borussia Dortmund would entertain offers around the mark of £130 million for the midfielder.
But now The Sun (h/t Metro) claim that the German club will lower their asking price to around £83 million provided the fee is paid up-front.
If this report is true then City would have a huge advantage over other competitors, courtesy of their large cash reserves. Liverpool are also said to be interested in the England international.
United came close to signing the midfielder in the summer of 2020 before the player decided to make a move to the Bundesliga for around £25 million. The midfielder and his family believed that a move to Germany would aid his development.
There is no disputing that and now the Red Devils will face more challenges to land a long-term target. One of the best youngsters there is, Bellingham would make a fantastic addition to this United squad.
Erik ten Hag has a very exciting squad of young and experienced players under him. Adding the 19-year-old could help the Dutch manager to take back the Red Devils to their previous glories. But, the sought-after target will neither come easy nor cheap.
It remains to be seen which team makes the best case to have Bellingham wearing their colours in 2023, be it Dortmund, either of the Manchester clubs, or someone else. Christian Eriksen has been good this season but we can use a younger player to future-proof our midfield.
