Brentford forward Ivan Toney would be allured by ‘massive club’ Manchester United
Manchester United would be an attractive destination for Brentford Forward Ivan Toney. Journalist Pete O’Rourke feels a “massive club” like the Old Trafford side would not have a problem luring the striker from the Bees.
Toney has had an impressive start to the 2022/23 campaign. In seven Premier League appearances, the 26-year-old has scored five goals and provided two assists. And the centre-forward has been handed an England call-up in the latest squad.
Speaking Give Me Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), O’Rourke feels the striker has been pivotal for Brentford. And he has claimed United would turn the 26-year-old’s head.
“Ivan Toney, he’s worked wonders to get that call-up to the England squad. He’s been instrumental for Brentford since they came up to the Premier League last season, and the chance to move to a massive club like Manchester United, I’m sure, would turn his head.
“That’s pretty obvious, I think, for any player.”
Toney joined the West London club in the summer of 2020. After a record-breaking Championship season for the 26-year-old in terms of goalscoring, Brentford were promoted to the English top flight.
In the previous campaign, Toney featured 37 times for the Bees in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists. The 26-year-old’s contributions were key in helping the West London club stay in the PL.
United were linked with Toney in the summer. However, the centre-forward remained at the Gtech Community Stadium side. And his form in the 2022/23 campaign has seen him become a part of Gareth Southgate’s plans for the first time.
The Red Devils have seemingly been short in the centre-forward position. Apart from Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial, none of our attackers are natural number nines.
However, Marcus Rashford has been preferred by Erik ten Hag up front. As a result, the Portuguese has seen most of his game time come off the bench, while the French forward has been on the sidelines for most of the season.
