Lisandro Martinez showers praise on Manchester United fans for their everpresent support
Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has showered praise on the fans for the way they back the team. The Argentine is delighted with the support from the Mancunians.
Martinez made his way to Manchester in the recent transfer window from Ajax. The 24-year-old reunited with Erik ten Hag at the Old Trafford side. And the Argentine has been impressive after a shaky start initially.
Speaking to club media (h/t Manchester Evening News), Martinez spoke of having a bond with United fans. The Argentine is elated with the fans being behind the team and feels the support fuels the side’s desire.
“If you play a friendly game or if you play a big game, the people will be there for the club.
“I’m so happy because we have a connection with the people, it’s like we are not playing alone, it’s like we play with them as well. I’m really happy to feel that love from the fans, it’s incredible.
“In the game you play with more adrenaline, with more passion, because you know that they are there for you. So to the fans I say ‘thank you so much, and I appreciate it’, [I] feel too much love from them.”
Martinez has started every game for the Red Devils in the Premier League. The first two games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford were not his best. And doubts surrounded the 24-year-old’s abilities to cope with English football.
Martinez has brought character to United
However, Martinez has shown in recent weeks why Ten Hag trusts him. The Dutch manager persisted with the Argentine despite the criticism. And now, fans see the qualities the 24-year-old brings to the team.
Martinez is a good defender. But what supporters have liked most about him is the Argentine’s passion and aggression when he plays. The 24-year-old seems to give his all on the pitch when playing.
And fans have embraced Martinez’s character. And it looks like the fighting spirit has been transmitted to every other player in the team. Moreover, United’s results of late have given supporters renewed hope about the Red Devils’ chances of competing this season.
United are on a four-game win streak in the league. We sit three points behind table-toppers Arsenal, who the Red Devils beat 3-1 at Old Trafford recently.
