Harry Maguire left frustrated with David de Gea as the Manchester United captain finds himself on the bench
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has been annoyed with David de Gea as the England international finds himself on the Red Devils’ bench. The 29-year-old has not started many games for the Old Trafford side under Erik ten Hag.
According to ESPN (h/t Mirror), Maguire feels that during a difficult period, he has not been helped by the coaches and players around him. And the England international’s ‘frustrations’ have been directed towards the Manchester-based club’s number one goalkeeper.
Certain attributes of De Gea have irked the club captain. Lack of communication and the 31-year-old’s reluctance to come out and defend have dissatisfied the centre-back.
Maguire is at a ‘crossroads’ in his United career. The 29-year-old has found himself mostly on the bench in the last few weeks. And the England international faces the ‘harsh reality’ of game time being challenging to come by ahead of the Qatar World Cup.
Maguire has lost his place at United
In the previous campaign, Maguire started most of the games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick. Fans had high hopes for our backline with the arrival of Raphael Varane last summer. However, we looked shaky.
United conceded 57 goals in the PL. We ended the campaign with a goal difference of zero. And the Red Devils failed to achieve a top-four berth, finishing sixth.
Every player had a clean slate following the arrival of a new gaffer. And Maguire kept the armband and his place in the starting XI under Ten Hag. However, it did not last long.
The Red Devils lost the first two games of the campaign with Lisandro Martinez and Maguire in the back four. The Argentine and England international were criticised. However, since the 4-0 loss to Brentford, the club captain has not played much.
