PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo and Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag share the same agent

Manchester United have a favourable circumstance in the race for PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo. The Holland international has the same representatives as Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils’ manager and Gakpo sharing an agent is a ‘really big point’, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on The United Stand (h/t Express). And it could be considered an advantage if Man United were to pursue a move in January.

Gakpo has attracted interest from a lot of clubs in the Premier League, including Leeds United, Southampton and the Red Devils. United were keen on bringing the 23-year-old to Old Trafford this summer. However, the club instead opted for Antony.

Man United had seemingly agreed personal terms with Gakpo. But in the end, a deal for the Holland international did not materialise.

The Red Devils evidently needed to strengthen the front line in the recent transfer window. Cristiano Ronaldo missed most of the pre-season. The Portuguese apparently wanted a move away from Manchester.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial did not have the best of times in the 2021/22 campaign. The trio were unable to make a considerable impact when they were featured.

Subsequently, Man United raided Ten Hag’s former club Ajax for a forward. Antony was added to the squad a few days before the transfer deadline.

And it seems at the moment we have enough depth up front. Ronaldo ended up staying. Rashford and Sancho look to have found their feet under the new gaffer. The Red Devils also have exciting youngsters such as Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho.

Gakpo has had an impressive start to the new season. In 13 appearances in all competitions, the 23-year-old has registered 10 goals and nine assists. The Holland international has been consistently performing for a few campaigns now. Hopefully, Man United will revisit his signing in the future.
