Manchester United cautious about Anthony Martial while Marcus Rashford could return against City
Marcus Rashford is in contention to be back for Manchester United against Manchester City, while the injury sustained by Anthony Martial is ‘problematic’, according to ESPN (h/t Express).
The England international has been out of action for the Red Devils since picking up an injury against Arsenal. On the other hand, the French striker has featured just once this season. United are cautious about the 26-year-old’s Achilles knock.
As a result, Martial is not expected to be back any time soon. The France international has played just 45 minutes in the 2022/23 campaign in the 2-1 win against Liverpool.
Rashford was not called up to the latest England squad because of fitness issues. The Manchester-based club are hopeful of the United academy graduate being available for the derby on 2 October.
The England international had a difficult time in the previous one and a half seasons. In the previous campaign, Rashford was unable to make a considerable impact in the side. The 24-year-old scored just five goals in 32 appearances in all competitions.
Martial had difficulties as well last season. He failed to establish himself under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick. And subsequently, the French national joined Sevilla on loan in January.
However, it looks like Erik ten Hag has been able to get the best out of the duo. Rashford and Martial were impressive during the pre-season friendly.
The 26-year-old centre-forward has been on the sidelines for most of the 2022/23 campaign. But the England international has brought his form into the new season.
