Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United will be in the market for a right-back
Speaking on The United Stand via Youtube, reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United will seek a new right-back in the upcoming transfer windows.
The Red Devils are coming off the back of a good 2022 summer transfer window that saw them bring in several players. While adding Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia have reinforced the central and left side of the rearguard, Erik ten Hag’s rebuild is far from done.
Diogo Dalot has usurped Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the club’s first choice right back but the Portuguese international is far from a world-class player. It thus perhaps makes sense that the ed Devils will look to bring in a player either next January or in the summer of 2023.
Romano confirms the same and goes on to hint that reinforcing the position could be a priority at Old Trafford. Seeing how well our summer signings have settled in, Ten Hag clearly knows what he is doing and will need to be backed adequately.
“Manchester United want to sign a new right back, and I think it will be one of the missions for the summer or January.”
Bringing in a quality right-back in January will not be easy. However, it is also not impossible and the cub will do well to do so as early as possible. It could prove to be pivotal heading into the business end of the season. The Red Devils, for their part, appear reluctant to sanction a January spending spree and we might very well need to wait until the summer for the move to happen.
Romano goes on to add that Ten Hag is pleased with Dalot but is seeking further competition. The Red Devils tried to land Sergino Dest in the final days of the summer transfer window but were unable to see the deal through.
Another player on the Red Devils’ radar is Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries. Man United appear to still be keen on the Dutchman and it is a deal that has been backed to keep an eye out for. Dumfries has stood out in a rather poor Inter outfit this season and would be a welcome addition to the roster at Old Trafford.
“For Dumfries, I would keep the situation open. Not just for January, but for next summer.”

Romano’s comments could spell the end for Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s time at Old Trafford. The Englishman has been largely out of favour under Ten Hag and it does not appear likely to change anytime soon.
