Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag admires Ajax forward Brian Brobbey going into the January transfer window, according to a Spanish media report (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils wanted to get the Holland national earlier in the summer. However, the Manchester-based club failed to get a deal over the line for the 20-year-old.

Ten Hag had a conversation with Brobbey in the summer. And now, with the winter window coming up, the Dutch manager has identified the 20-year-old as the player ‘he likes the most’.

United have to evidently plan for the future. Our forward line consists of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is 37. The Portugal international returned to Manchester last year. The five-time Ballon ‘Or winner ended the previous campaign as our leading goalscorer.

However, United were overall disappointing in the 2021/22 season. We failed to make any meaningful headway in the cup competitions. And in the Premier League, the Red Devils finished sixth.

Ronaldo missed most of the pre-season under Ten Hag. The 37-year-old was seemingly angling for a move away from the club. In the end, he has stayed for the time being.

However, under the new gaffer, Ronaldo has had to settle for a place on the bench in the initial weeks of the campaign. The Portugal international has started just one game for the Red Devils in the league.

Brobbey came through the youth ranks at Ajax. The 20-year-old was given his debut for the Amsterdam-based club by Ten Hag. The centre-forward spent time in the Bundesliga last season before returning to the Eredivisie.

In 10 appearances this campaign, Brobbey has scored three goals and provided two assists for Ajax in all competitions. It remains to be seen whether the 20-year-old links up with the United manager once again in Manchester in the coming future.
