Liverpool start pursuit of Manchester United target and Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham

Liverpool have taken the initial steps to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, who Manchester United have been linked with, according to the Sunday World’s Kevin Palmer on Twitter (h/t Express).

The Red Devils have been one of the several clubs linked with the 19-year-old. Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid have been the clubs associated with the midfielder’s signature.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s side are leading the race at the moment. Bellingham is also aware that Liverpool are keen on acquiring his services.

United lost a host of midfielders in the summer. Paul Pogba left the Red Devils on a free transfer. Fans were excited when the France international arrived back in 2016. However, the 29-year-old failed to live up to expectations in Manchester.

Nemanja Matic was another departure from the club. The 34-year-old had been a great servant for the Red Devils. The Serbian played a key part in protecting our backline over the years.

There were a few other players who left for pastures new, leaving the engine room short-staffed. United subsequently signed Christian Eriksen and Casemiro to bolster the midfield.

The two have had mixed starts to their careers in Manchester. The Danish national has started every game under Erik ten Hag. On the other hand, the Brazilian has been kept out of the starting XI by Scott McTominay.

Bellingham is one of the biggest prospects in world football. He has already established himself as one of the best in the Bundesliga with Dortmund.

The 19-year-old is capable of playing in a number of roles in midfield. Bellingham has been deployed in the pivot as well as the number eight position in his time in Germany. Will United be able to entice the England international? Only time will tell.
