Troy Deeney feels Brentford centre-forward Ivan Toney would be ‘perfect fit’ for Manchester United
Manchester United have been told by Troy Deeney that Brentford striker Ivan Toney would be the ‘perfect fit’ for the side. The 26-year-old was linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.
Toney has started the 2022/23 campaign in red hot form. The 26-year-old has five goals from the first six Premier League fixtures. The English striker has gone from strength to strength over the years.
In his column on The Sun (h/t Metro), the former Watford ace has identified Toney as someone who could shine at a top club like United. And considering the current options at Erik ten Hag’s disposal in the forward line, Deeney feels the 26-year-old is what the Red Devils need.
“This guy has proven for a few years now that he can do it on the next level. I remember Ivan was linked with Arsenal and Manchester United previously and he would have shone there.
“He would have been a perfect fit for United in terms of what they currently need up front.”
Arsenal were another club linked with Toney in the recent transfer window. However, the Gunners have signed Gabriel Jesus to fill the number nine position.
United could do with Toney
On the other hand, United seemingly have a dearth of options to play as a centre-forward. Cristiano Ronaldo has been on the bench for the majority of this season. And Marcus Rashford has been chosen to play up top.
Ten Hag opted to start Christian Eriksen as the number nine in his first competitive game in the Old Trafford dugout. However, we did not look threatening and lost 2-1 to the Seagulls.
Against Brentford, which was the Dutch manager’s second game in charge, Ronaldo started up front. However, it was the West London side’s centre-forward that made an impact in the fixture.
Brentford beat us 4-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium. Toney proved to be too much to handle for our backline. The 26-year-old provided two assists for the Bees as they ran riot over the Old Trafford side in the opening 35 minutes.

Will Toney be someone who will get to grace the red shirt? Only time will tell. However, considering his qualities, it would not be a surprise for fans to see the 26-year-old plying his trade at a top side next season.
