Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans the ‘chosen one’ to bolster Manchester United in January

Manchester United have Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans in their sights to bolster the middle of the park in January, according to Fichajes (h/t Manchester Evening News).

United are going to target a right-back, creative midfielder and forward next year. Tielemans is the ‘chosen one’ to be brought in the winter window to reinforce the engine room.

Erik ten Hag wants to add the Belgian to the Red Devils’ squad. The idea is for the 25-year-old to rotate with summer signing Christian Eriksen.

Tielemans’ current contract with the Foxes makes him a reasonably priced player compared to others. The Belgian’s deal with Leicester expires at the end of next season. Thus, it makes the 25-year-old an interesting option for the Old Trafford side.

The midfielder was linked with a move away in the recent transfer window. However, nothing materialised and Tielemans remained at the King Power Stadium. Come 1 January, the Belgian will be free to discuss a move with sides outside England.

United signed two players to add to the engine room this summer. Eriksen arrived on a free transfer and Casemiro made his way to Manchester from Spain. The Denmark international has immediately cemented his place in Ten Hag’s starting XI.

The former Real Madrid star is still looking to establish himself in the Dutch manager’s plans. Scott McTominay has, for now, kept the Brazilian out of the team.

Eriksen has started every game the Red Devils have played in the 2022/23 campaign. The Danish national is 30 years old. And United have to play a lot of games this season.

Fatigue and injuries will be a consideration. The World Cup starts in the middle of the 2022/23 campaign. It would evidently be wise for United to get someone like Tielemans in January to add depth to the squad.
