Gabriel Agbonlahor warns Manchester United of furious Cristiano Ronaldo considering January exit
Manchester United have been warned by Gabriel Agbonlahor about Cristiano Ronaldo being furious with his current situation at the club. The former Premier League striker suggests the Portugal international might look for a move away in January.
Ronaldo has started just two games this season under Erik ten Hag. The 37-year-old started against Brentford in the 4-0 loss. But since then, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has had to settle for a role as a substitute.
Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Express), former Aston Villa centre-forward Agbonlahor felt that Ronaldo must be “very angry” about not starting more games. He also proposes that the 37-year-old will think about his future in the coming months.
“Ronaldo must be very angry at the moment at the fact he’s not starting games. Ronaldo wants to start games, he wants to score goals and wants to play in the Champions League. Everything that he wants, he’s not getting.
“It might come to the stage where in January and looks at the situation and thinks ‘You know what, maybe my time at the highest level is over’.”
Ronaldo returned to United last season after leaving the club in 2009 for Real Madrid. Since then, the Portuguese has become one of the best goal scorers in world football.
The 37-year-old lived up to expectations in the 2021/22 campaign. He ended with the most goals for the Red Devils in all competitions. However, the Portuguese was let down by most of his teammates.
Apart from Ronaldo, none of our attackers were able to make a considerable impact last season. The rest of the forward line did not contribute to enough goals. The Red Devils also lacked creativity up front.
The summer saw uncertainty around Ronaldo’s future. The Portuguese was linked with a move away from Manchester. However, he ended up staying as the transfer window closed.
Our other forwards seemed to have picked up form under Ten Hag. The likes of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have found their feet under the Dutch manager.
