Raphael Varane reveals Manchester United want to get their hands on every trophy this season
Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has revealed the ambitions the team have this season. The France international wants to be competitive and challenge for every title.
Varane signed for United in the summer of 2021 from Real Madrid. The 29-year-old won multiple Champions League and La Liga trophies with Los Blancos.
Speaking to BeanymanSports on YouTube (h/t MEN), Varane divulged what United aspired to achieve in the 2022/23 campaign. The French national feels the pre-season was good for bonding. The 29-year-old claims the team wants to get their hands on silverware.
“The (pre-season) tour that we had was very important in building the spirit of this team.
“We’re ambitious. We want to win every game. We know the Premier League is such a difficult competition so we prepare every day to be ready. We will try to win every trophy possible.”
Last summer, United signed Jadon Sancho, Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo. Subsequently, fans had high expectations from the team. However, the Red Devils failed to deliver.
Most of our players were disappointed and the whole team looked shaky. United ended up finishing sixth in the table. The Old Trafford side ended the previous season with the lowest points total in the Premier League era.
Varane struggled with injuries in the 2021/22 season. United were not able to consistently rely on the 29-year-old. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof were the centre-back partnership that featured regularly.
The Red Devils had a bad defensive record. Our defenders looked to be low on confidence. By the end of last season, the Manchester-based club had conceded 57 goals in the league.

Erik ten Hag’s reign got off to a bad start as well. However, the new gaffer made some bold decisions. Maguire was dropped to the bench and Varane has been paired with new signing Lisandro Martinez. The Frenchman and Argentine have formed a solid basis.
With Varane and Martinez in the United defence, the Red Devils have gone on a four-game win streak in the league. Hopefully, the Frenchman manages to stay fit and continue his fine form throughout the campaign.
