Barcelona prodigy Gavi set to agree new contract amidst interest from Manchester United
Spain international Gavi is set to sign a new contract with Barcelona amidst interest from Manchester United, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t The Sun).
The 18-year-old is set to commit his future to the Catalan giants. Gavi’s new contract will include a €1 billion release clause. Barcelona have never had any doubts about the Spaniard extending his contract.
While his current deal does expire in a year, the Blaugrana had already negotiated new terms last December. So, any interest from the likes of United, Liverpool and Manchester City was not taken seriously by the Camp Nou side.
Gavi has already established himself as a first-team regular at Barcelona. Considering the quality the Catalans possess in the middle of the park, it is an impressive feat for the 18-year-old to be preferred by Xavi Hernandez.
Barcelona boast of the likes of Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Frank Kessie in the engine room. Gavi is also someone Luis Enrique has faith in. The Spain national team coach has already handed the 18-year-old 10 caps for his country.
What makes Gavi special is his tenacity in midfield. The Spaniard is full of running and energy and gives his all when he steps on the pitch. The 18-year-old is also technically sound, having come from the famous La Masia academy.
In the summer, United lost a lot of depth in the middle of the park. The Red Devils parted ways with the likes of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic. Academy graduate James Garner was also sold by the club in the recent transfer window.
United went into the market and got Cristian Eriksen on a free transfer. The Danish national has started every game of the campaign under Erik ten Hag.
Casemiro was a late addition to the squad. United signed the Brazilian from Real Madrid for a hefty fee. The 30-year-old has been one of the best defensive midfielders over the last few years.

Gavi is a talented prospect with his whole future ahead of him. The 18-year-old has the makings of becoming a generational player. However, it seems any move to United is unlikely for the time being.
