Real Sociedad take a swipe at Manchester United after 1-0 victory at Old Trafford in the Europa League
Manchester United were beaten by Real Sociedad in the first game of the Europa League group stage of the 2022/23 campaign. The White and Blues took a swipe at the Red Devils after full-time.
United were coming off a four-game win streak in the Premier League before facing the La Liga outfit. However, the Spanish club were able to scupper Erik ten Hag’s plans and take away three points from Manchester.
Sociedad reacted with a bit of banter after the fixture. On their official Twitter account, Los Txuri-Urdin posted, “Manchester is blue… and white”, with former Manchester City star David Silva departing the stadium.
United started off the season on the back foot after two back-to-back losses in the league. Ten Hag was beaten in his first two competitive games in the Old Trafford side’s dugout.
Ten Hag rotated the squad
The gaffer made some big decisions after the Brentford result, which the Red Devils lost 4-0. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were dropped from the starting lineup for the Liverpool game.
We ended up winning the North West derby and got off the mark in the PL. And Ten Hag continued with the same starting XI for the next three games, bringing success to the team.
However, the Dutch manager decided to rotate the squad for the game against Sociedad. Casemiro was handed his first start while our captain and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner were back in the starting lineup.
While our backline was not tested much, a contentious handball decision awarded the La Liga outfit a penalty. And the White and Blues took the lead in the 59th minute.
Ronaldo was not able to influence the game much, while Casemiro seemed a bit off the pace. Charlie McNeill came on in the 84th minute for his United debut.
