Manchester United signing Antony opens up on impressive debut
Manchester United new boy Antony got off to a flying start to his time at Old Trafford with an impressive performance against Arsenal and scoring his first goal for the club on his debut.
The Antony transfer saga took the entirety of the summer window with Ajax firm on their stance to not sell the player and Manchester United not willing to break the bank for the player
Only after Antony publicly stated his desire to leave and went on a strike and Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag persisted the board for his signing, eventually, Manchester and Ajax reached an agreement for a whopping fee of £85.1million
With an important fixture against Arsenal coming up, not many were expecting Antony to start the game however Ten Hag showed his trust in the Brazilian and put him straight into the starting eleven.
Antony repaid his manager’s faith by giving a good performance and scoring his debut goal for the club giving a glimpse of his promising ability to the fans.
Speaking to the club’s official website (h/t Manchester Evening News) following the win, Antony reminisced on his first goal and how it was special to him and named three other teammates who played an instrumental part in the build-up to the goal.
“When I saw the ball going in, and the net shaking, I express all my feelings the way I did. Yes, it gave me goosebumps for sure.
“Bruno Fernandes had the ball, I think he shrugged off Gabriel Jesus, and then he touched the ball to Jadon Sancho.
“And when Marcus, being a very intelligent player, realised I could make a run, I just took off.”
Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony are a fluid attack capable of interchanging positions and were pretty solid as the front three against Arsenal and Antony would be looking to quickly get integrated and develop a partnership with the attackers of the team.
