Jurrien Timber gave his verdict on Manchester United snub
Speaking to Dutch Outlet AD (h/t Manchester Evening News) Manchester United transfer target Jurrien Timber has lifted the lift on snubbing the Red Devils.
Erik Ten Hag has announced the Red Devils manager on 20th April and the Dutchman was keen on adding Timber to his Man United roster. The youngster could have been the first cog to be added to the club’s rebuild.
Despite the club making their interest clear, the Ajax defender rejected it amid speculation that the Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal had a part to play in the decision. The Oranje boss is quite vocal of his distaste for the Red Devils and it shows.
According to Manchester Evening News, Van Gaal asked Timber to turn down a move to Manchester United in order to cement a place in the Netherlands World Cup squad.
The move eventually did not happen however Timber has come out and explained how the situation was contrary to the speculations. In fact, he went on to add that the Dutch manager backed him to secure more gametime at Old Trafford.
“Many things that are written in the media are false
“Like when people say that it was Louis van Gaal who told me not to go to Manchester United. He actually said I would make minutes there.”
It is clear that contrary to the report, Jurrien Timber made the decision consciously to stay at Ajax for the upcoming season. However, the departure of Lisandro Martinez and Antony would definitely feel like a missed opportunity for Timber.
Whether he will eventually join his former Ajax teammates at the Theatre of Dreams remains to be seen.
