Marco Asensio was not interested in a move away from Real Madrid this summer amidst links to Manchester United
Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio was not interested in a move away from the Spanish capital this summer amidst links to Manchester United, according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Manchester Evening News).
There seemed to have been tentative interest from the Red Devils in the 26-year-old. However, any approach would have amounted to nothing as Asensio was set on staying with Los Blancos for the remaining year of his contract.
In the end, the Manchester-based club pursued Ajax for Antony. United were able to get a deal over the line for the Brazilian before the transfer deadline.
Erik ten Hag evidently wanted to bolster his attacking options. All summer, it seemed Cristiano Ronaldo would move away from the club. And in order to plan for that, the Red Devils needed to add more bodies up front.
However, the Portugal international has ended up staying for the time being. The 37-year-old ended the previous campaign as United’s top goalscorer in all competitions.
Last season, apart from Ronaldo, the rest of our attackers failed to make an impact. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial had a poor 2021/22 campaign.
Thus, fans felt the side needed to strengthen the forward line. However, we did not buy an attacker until the very end of the transfer window. The first two games of the season reflected the need for additional reinforcements up front.
United players failed to get on the scoresheet against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. However, since then, Rashford and Sancho have been excellent. Anthony Elnaga has also been a regular starter.

Ten Hag now has a lot of attacking talent on the bench. Ronaldo has come on as a substitute in the last few matches. Antony has also been added to the squad. Alejandro Garnacho is an exciting prospect as well. Thus, fans will not be too worried about missing out on Asensio.
