Report: Clause in Martin Dubravka deal spells trouble for Manchester United

Martin Dubravka agrees personal terms with Manchester United.

Newcastle United have a recall clause in Martin Dubravka loan switch to Manchester United

According to Manchester Evening News, Newcastle United have included a recall clause in the land deal that saw Martin Dubravka move to Manchester United with the Magpies having the right to call back the player midseason in the event of an injury crisis.

This could mean that in the highly unlikely event of David de Gea being injured for Manchester United and Nick Pope being injured for Newcastle United, Eddie Howe could choose to recall the 33-year-old which will leave the Red Devils in a fix.

It is assumed that Manchester United do not have a similar recall clause in the deal to loan out Dean Henderson to Nottingham Forest and although the likelihood of such a scenario occurring is infinitesimally small, you can never rule out anything in football.

Manchester United do have Tom Heaton in the squad who is the third-choice goalkeeper behind De Gea and Dubravka but the veteran shot-stopper is not the most reliable presence to have between the sticks.

The Red Devils signed Dubravka on a season-long loan with an option to buy next summer. Man United have been on the hunt for a backup shot-stopper throughout the summer and the Magpies man is the one who comes to Old Trafford eventually.

There is absolutely no discussion as to who the first-choice shot-stopper at Old Trafford is. David de Gea is a superstar in his own right and will be hoping to build on what was a terrific season for the Spaniard last time around.

Martin Dubravka is a solid backup option

After a few years of inconsistent performances, the former Atletico Madrid goalie seems to be back to his very best. Man United will be hoping that DDG stays fit throughout the season and they don’t face the issue of having to rely on a backup.

Dubravka has Premier League experience and will be a solid backup to the Spaniard. He has to be reliable whenever called upon and the 33-year-old will have to impress in the few chances he is likely to get this season.

The recall clause in Dubravka’s deal is unlikely to be triggered. Manchester United are unlikely to worry about it and will proceed with the current campaign.
