Manchester United Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo has offer on the table from Napoli
According to Spanish outlet Marca (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has an offer on the table from Napoli.
It is said that Gli Azzurri could be his final chance of getting a move away from Old Trafford this summer. The Portugal international’s desire to leave the club in search of UEFA Champions League football is well documented.
Clubs like Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich have already ruled themselves out of the race to sign the former Real Madrid man. It remains to be seen if he can still seal a move away from the club with Napoli interested in signing the ex-Juventus star on a loan deal for this season.
Ronaldo’s contract at Manchester United expires next year but it has the option to be extended by another campaign. The Portugal international was amongst the goals last season but is yet to open his tally under manager Erik ten Hag.
Ronaldo back to Serie A?
The Dutchman, in fact, has benched Ronaldo in three of United’s four league games last month. The only time he started was in the 4-0 hammering at the hands of Brentford.
In the past decade and a half, no manager would have dared to keep Ronaldo on the bench for most games. But at 37, perhaps the former Ajax boss is more open to giving those starts to a younger player rather than Ronaldo.
If Ronaldo’s focus isn’t on Man United, then it would also be sensible to keep him sidelined. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial can play in the centre-forward role.
New signing Antony, coupled with Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga, would make for a very potent attack at the club. Napoli, meanwhile, are in the UCL this season after finishing third in Serie A during the last campaign.
