John Murtough blocked Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag from signing Sergino Dest from Barcelona in favour of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Barcelona full-back and Manchester United-linked Sergino Dest set to join Serie A champions AC Milan

Sergino Dest, who Manchester United have been linked with this transfer window, is set to join AC Milan from Barcelona, according to Relevo via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The Serie A giants will sign the 21-year-old on loan with a buy-option. Clubs like Villarreal and United have missed out on the USMNT star’s signature.

The Red Devils have been keen on bringing a new right-back this summer. The current options at Erik ten Hag’s disposal for the position could evidently be improved.

Dest joined Barcelona in the summer of 2020 after a breakout season with Ajax under the current United manager. However, the American international has failed to cement his place in the Camp Nou side’s XI.

The 21-year-old looks to have fallen out of favour at Barcelona. Xavi Hernandez has not included the USMNT star in the matchday squads of the first three La Liga fixtures.

At United, supporters have grown vary of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The England U21 international struggles to make an impact in the final third of the pitch, leaving many frustrated.

While the former Crystal Palace star was a regular under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick preferred Diogo Dalot. The German’s appointment saw the Portuguese establish himself in the team.

Now under Ten Hag, Dalot is still the first choice, starting the first four games of the 2022/23 campaign. However, the 23-year-old also has lapses in concentration on occasions in defence.

As such, United could do with more quality in the right-back position. However, it seems we will have to move on to other targets with Dest on his way to Milan. It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils make a move for another full-back this transfer window.
