Man United are keeping an eye on 21-year-old SPL midfield star

Celtic midfielder and Denmark youth international Matt O’Riley being scouted by Manchester United

Manchester United are scouting Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, according to Manchester Evening News. The 21-year-old moved to the Bhoys in January 2022 from Milton Keynes Dons.

O’Riley is a Denmark youth international who has also represented England’s youth sides. The 21-year-old started his career with Fulham, coming up through the ranks. He then moved to MK Dons in the summer of 2020.

Now in Glasgow, United are keeping an eye on the midfielder’s development. Although, it doesn’t seem that the club are going to make a move for him just yet.

O’Riley signed a long-term contract with Celtic, keeping him at the club till 2026. Last season, the 21-year-old made 20 appearances for the Bhoys in all competitions, scoring four goals and making two assists.

The London-born midfielder has started the new campaign in fine form. O’Riley has registered three assists in five appearances in Scotland’s first tier of football as of now. The 21-year-old mostly plays in the number eight position.

United lost a number of midfielders this summer. Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic were the two key members of the squad that left the Red Devils for free at the end of last season.

Erik ten Hag has been afforded the signing of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro this transfer window to bolster the middle of the park.

United also possesses an abundance of talented youngsters. Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage are the two midfielders who shone during pre-season. The youth academy products impressed a lot of fans.

O’Riley is one for the future. It remains to be seen how the 21-year-old develops at Celtic over the years. If the midfielder matures into a quality player, top sides like United will undoubtedly go after his signature.
