Championship side negotiating move for second Man United youngster this summer

Birmingham City negotiating move for Tahith Chong after land Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United

Manchester United and Birmingham City are in advanced negotiations for the transfer of 22-year-old forward Tahith Chong, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The Holland U21 international is the subject of a possible permanent move, with the Blues pushing to get the deal over the line. The St Andrew’s side have already signed Hannibal Mejbri on loan from the Red Devils this summer.

Chong spent the previous campaign on loan at Birmingham. The 22-year-old was being afforded regular starts for the Blues before an injury hampered his run of games.

The Dutch national returned to United for the pre-season. Chong featured in a few friendlies. Now, it seems Erik ten Hag has decided to ship the youngster off to Birmingham.

Over the years, the 22-year-old also has had experience in the Bundesliga with SV Werder Bremen and Club Brugge in Belgium. However, Chong hasn’t been given opportunities for the Manchester-based club’s first team.

The Holland U21 international is a versatile player, but he has mostly played on the right and left wings throughout his career. For Birmingham in the Championship last season, the 22-year-old had one goal and three assists in 20 appearances.

United have a bunch of young talent in the squad for the forward line. Anthony Elnaga broke out in the previous campaign. The 20-year-old performed well, with other established attackers failing to make an impact. The Swedish youngster has also played a key role for Ten Hag at the start of the new season.

Alejandro Garnacho is another name fans are excited about. The Argentine is one of the biggest prospects to have come through the Red Devils’ youth setup.

With slim pickings in terms of opportunities for Chong at United, it’s wise for the forward to find game time elsewhere.
