Transfer News: Manchester United weighing up a bid for Ivan Toney
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are weighing up a bid for talented English striker Ivan Toney from Brentford this summer to reinforce their striking options.
The Mirror claim that the Red Devils are not the only ones wanting to sign the talented Brentford man with other Premier League clubs like Chelsea and Everton also looking at the 26-year-old to reinforce their attack.
Toney joined Brentford from Peterborough in 2020 and has since then gone on to become a key cog in Thomas Frank’s side. He is essential to the way Brentford play and has been very influential on the pitch.
Toney is not the typical striker. He is good at scoring goals but his strengths also include holding up play and providing perfect balls to set up his teammates. These qualities are very rare to find in a striker and this makes the 26-year-old different.
The Brentford man played 37 times for Thomas Frank’s side in their first season back in the Premier League last time scoring 14 goals and providing six assists across all competitions. Toney has started this season on a good note as well with two goals and two assists in three PL games.
It is no secret that Manchester United want to sign a new striker. Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at the club is still up for discussion and even if the Portuguese end up staying, ten Hag will be better off with another striking option.
There is Anthony Martial as well. The Frenchman had a very good pre-season but got injured right at the end of it. He is yet to make an appearance since but he is back in training and is set to feature against Liverpool tomorrow.
Man United have not had the best of starts to the Premier League season recording losses in both their games until now. They will want to pick it up and make a statement by beating Jurgen Klopp’s men tomorrow.
