Transfer News: Leicester City are interested in Manchester United midfielder James Garner
Leicester City are the latest club to enter the race for Manchester United midfielder James Garner, according to the Mirror. Everton and Southampton have made approaches for the defensive midfielder, but to no avail as such.
United are said to be open to selling the 21-year-old as Erik ten Hag does not see him in his plans. He is valued at around £15 million by the Reds. And now the Foxes are prepared to enter the race for him.
Garner, a United academy graduate was promoted to the senior team in 2020. He was sent out on loan to Watford but was recalled after six months. He was loaned out to Nottingham Forest in January 2021, where he impressed for the remaining period.
The Forest side again approached to take him on loan for last season and United gladly reciprocated the offer. The England Under-21 international was crucial for his side as he scored four goals and got eight assists in 41 championship games.
He also played all the minutes of their play-offs campaign and helped them gain promotion. It was expected he will be given a chance after his impressive loan spell, but Ten Hag does not have him in his plans for this season.
Fred and Scott McTominay have been criticised by the fans for their continuous poor performances. The Red Devils have agreed in principle to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid. He is a major update to the current midfield, but he might not be enough.
It will be unwise to sell such a young prospect without giving him any chance. Rather, it would be wise to loan him out again. It would help in his development, while United could monitor his progress and then decide on his future.
Everton and Southampton are also interested in the United academy product. These are teams that can offer him more playing time than he is currently getting under Ten Hag.

Ten Hag, meanwhile, will hope that his side can improve its performance. They have lost both their games and face the mammoth task of facing Liverpool for their next match this Monday. Garner remained an unused substitute for both the games and remains to be seen if he will feature or not for the Reds this season.
