Transfer News: Five Premier League clubs are interested in Scott McTominay

According to 90min (h/t Manchester Evening News), five Premier League clubs are interested in Scott McTominay. Newcastle United, Everton, West Ham United, Leicester City and Southampton are all interested in the 25-year-old midfielder.

This comes after United agreed in principle to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid. The imminent arrival of the Brazilian means it is likely that McTominay will lose his place in the starting eleven. And it will not be surprising.

Despite being one of the regular players, the Scottish international has struggled to deliver good performances on a consistent basis. He was below par against Brighton & Hove Albion in midfield and came on as a substitute in the second half against Brentford.

However, the Reds have not said that he is available to depart while the player also has not submitted any transfer request. But that has not stopped rival clubs from registering their interest in the 25-year-old.

Casemiro could partner with Christian Eriksen in the midfield, with Bruno Fernandes playing ahead as the attacking midfielder. Fred could also partner up with Casemiro, with both already playing together for their country, Brazil.

There is also the chance that McTominay somehow retains his spot in the starting XI at the expense of one of the aforementioned names. He was pretty good when he was playing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he can still recapture that form.

McTominay is likely to leave on loan if he does decide to leave. With just a few days left till the market closes, it could be difficult for United to make a long-term decision on him. Despite the Scot’s poor performance, he still helps in adding depth to the squad.

The 25-year-old is likely to see a reduction in his playing minutes this season. But it will be wise for him to stay back and fight for his place on the team. Such a move will also likely be welcomed by Ten Hag, who would like to have fighters in his team.

It remains to be seen if McTominay stays or leaves. However, for now, he is in contention to start the game against Liverpool this Monday. Good performance in this game could help the Scot in the long run.
