Olympique Lyon reach agreement with Manchester United for Eric Bailly loan with buy option included
Eric Bailly is close to leaving Manchester United as Olympique Lyon have reached an agreement with the Red Devils over a loan with buy option deal for the Ivorian, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The French side are yet to reach an agreement on personal terms with the 28-year-old. However, there’s optimism surrounding a possible move as Bailly is interested in moving to Lyon.
The Ivory Coast international came to United in 2016 from Villarreal under Jose Mourinho’s reign in the Old Trafford dugout. Under the Portuguese manager, the 28-year-old had a promising debut season.
However, ever since his first season in a red shirt, Bailly has suffered a number of niggling injuries. The Ivorian has hardly played for the side on a regular basis. And over the years, United have brought in reinforcements, reducing the 28-year-old’s chances of getting into the XI.
Bailly has missed 103 games for the Red Devils over the years due to injuries. In six seasons in Manchester, the Ivory Coast international has made 113 appearances for the Old Trafford side.
Erik ten Hag’s reign has seen the arrival of two defenders to United this transfer window as of yet. Tyrell Malacia joined the club from PSV Eindhoven. The left-back was considered one of the biggest prospects in the Eredivisie.
The Red Devils have also gone out and signed Lisandro Martinez to the squad. The Argentine reunites with his former Ajax coach at Old Trafford.
Martinez and Harry Maguire have started the first two games of the new season. Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof can also be counted on.

United have a lot of depth in the centre-back positions. It’s difficult to envision Bailly getting many minutes if he stays in Manchester. A move away seems to be the best option for the Ivorian at the moment.
