Atletico Madrid forward Yannick Carrasco identified as target to strengthen Manchester United attack
Manchester United have turned their attention to Yannick Carrasco as an option to strengthen the attack, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro]. Atletico Madrid would be willing to sell the Belgian for £25.5million.
The Red Devils have been looking to add reinforcements to the forward line. And Carrasco is a ‘serious’ target for United this summer. The Manchester-based club have been after a number of attackers.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s remaining time at United is uncertain. And Atletico have been talked about as a possible destination for the Portuguese. However, the Carrasco deal has nothing to do with the 37-year-old’s future.
Ronaldo finished the previous campaign as the Red Devils’ top goal scorer. The 37-year-old finished the 2021/22 season with 24 goals in all competitions. However, the supporting cast let the fans down.
The likes of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, who supporters had high expectations from, failed to make an impact. The duo had five goals each in all competitions last season.
Anthony Elanga played a prominent role in the XI in the previous campaign. While he didn’t register many goals or assists, the 20-year-old’s performances were positive.
Anthony Martial was on the bench for most of the previous campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Frenchman joined Sevilla on loan in January.
The 26-year-old started the pre-season well under Erik ten Hag but was on the sidelines for the first two games of the new season. Rashford and Sancho also showed signs of improvement during the friendlies. However, the Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford results have been shocking, to say the least.

Carrasco is a versatile forward. For Diego Simeone last season, the 28-year-old mostly played in a deeper role as a left-midfielder. It remains to be seen whether the Belgian makes his way to Old Trafford this summer.
