Transfer News: Manchester United trying to swap Diogo Dalot for Sergino Dest
According to @sport (via United Zone) [h/t Manchester Evening News], Manchester United are trying to negotiate a swap deal for talented Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest this summer and are willing to send Diogo Dalot the other way.
Erik ten Hag is supposedly keen on signing the talented full-back from Barcelona. The Dutch tactician has worked with the American during his time at Amsterdam with Ajax and he thinks that Dest will be the perfect full-back for him.
Dest is an extremely talented right-back. Anyone who has seen the American international play knows that his stronger suit is attacking and that his defensive side of the game needs a lot of improvement as things stand.
The 21-year-old joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2020. He came to the Spanish club with much hype and expectation and whilst he has been decent, injuries have somewhat hampered his progress in the Spanish club.
The American full-back played 31 times for Xavi Hernandez’s team last season, failing to score a single goal whilst managing to provide three assists across all competitions. Injuries prevented Dest from playing more last season.
Right-back has been a position that has been extremely mediocre for Man United for many seasons now. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has failed to convince during his time here, especially over the last season and a half.
Diego Dalot has impressed in bits whenever given a chance at Old Trafford but there is a feeling that the Portuguese star is not the long-term option to fill the void that we have and we need to sign a new talented option.
Sergino Dest is an exciting prospect for Manchester United to consider but the only thing that really could be a sticking point in the deal is the fact that the American has proven to be extremely injury prone.
