Transfer News: Manchester United are interested in PSG striker Mauro Icardi
Manchester United are looking to add another striker to Erik ten Hag’s squad before the transfer window closes on September 1. And now according to TyC Sports (h/t Express), United have identified Mauro Icardi as a potential target.
Paris Saint-Germain are also looking for a forward in the market and has held talks with Marcus Rashford’s entourage. However, Man United are not interested in letting the Englishman leave the club this summer.
Icardi has been told to look for a new club by the Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier. Man United are said to be interested in a loan deal with an obligation to buy for the 29-year-old striker.
The Parisian club signed Icardi following a very impressive loan season with them during the 2019/20 season. But since then he has not been able to replicate his loan form and even struggled for game time last season.
The 29-year-old Argentian struggled in front of goal as he managed to score only five goals in 30 appearances acrossn all competitions. His form would not be the only concern for Ten Hag. Icardi is infamous for his controversial relationship with his wife and agent Wanda Nara.
He also clashed with the Inter Milan ultras during his time in Italy. Adding him to an already demotivated dressing room would not be a wise decision for United. His controversies are something United would love to avoid given reports about their dressing room.
Given that Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is still uncertain and Anthony Martial is recovering from his injury, Ten Hag’s hurriedness to sign a striker is understandable. But he should look for a more disciplined target than Icardi. The 29-year-old had disappointing form in front of the goal last season, and it is unlikely to change this season.
