Transfer News: Manchester United are eager to keep Marcus Rashford amid PSG interest.
Manchester United are eager to keep Marcus Rashford at the club this season. This comes amid reports that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the 24-year-old forward.
According to ESPN (h/t Daily Mail), United have no intentions of selling Rashford this summer. Instead, they are willing to open talks to extend the contract of the England international.
Rashford has less than 12 months left on his existing deal. However, United have the option to extend his contract by another year, effectively keeping the forward at the club till 2024.
The 24-year-old has seen a dip in form for most of the last season. This has led to him losing his spot in the England national team. He will be eager to force his way back to the first team and some may say a change of scene is necessary for that to happen.
But his current club would disagree with any such notion as they want to keep their man this season. Rashford has been part of the United side since his promotion to the team in 2016. The forward has played 304 games for United in all competitions, scoring 93 goals and assisting another 57.
He seems to be a part of Erik ten Hag’s plan for this season, as he started the game against Brighton & Hove Albion. With Cristiano Ronaldo’s future still uncertain and United being linked with a move for a striker this summer, it would not make much sense to sell Rashford.
Selling Rashford could prove to be a gamble for Ten Hag. Jadon Sancho would be the only experienced winger left in the team, with Anthony Elanga and Amad Diallo yet to prove themselves as regular starters. With the club going through a bad phase, it will be wise to keep familiar faces in the team.

It is highly unlikely that United will be willing to sell the 24-year-old. Getting him to sign a new contract offer would end all speculations about his departure. Rashford is expected to start again against Brentford this Saturday.
Speaking ahead of the game against Brentford, Erik ten Hag confirmed that the player is going nowhere. For now, it would appear that Rashford is set to stay on at Old Trafford. How the issue develops in the coming weeks and months remains to be seen.
