Cody Gakpo appreciates transfer interest from Manchester United and Erik ten Hag
PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo is appreciative of the interest Manchester United have shown in him, according to The Telegraph (h/t Metro).
The 23-year-old would be open to moving to Old Trafford this summer. With United supposedly preparing an offer, Gakpo is said to be keen on working with Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils haven’t started negotiations yet. But the feelings around a possible deal are positive. Also, the Holland international is represented by the same agency that advises Ten Hag.
The need for a new forward was evident throughout last season. And the Dutch manager had a few options on his list. But United have been unable to bolster the attack in the transfer window.
Coming into the final weeks of the window, we’re desperate for attackers. Unfortunately, the Brighton & Hove Albion result in Ten Hag’s first Premier League game didn’t help the cause.
The Manchester-based club’s forward line was already under the scanner after the despair of the previous campaign. Apart from Cristiano Ronaldo, none of the attacking options proved their worth.
Jadon Sancho arrived from Borussia Dortmund for big money. The 22-year-old was considered one of the most talented prospects in Germany. But at United, the England international has failed to perform up to the mark.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were anonymous for the whole of last season as well. The Red Devils’ academy product had one of his worst seasons in a red shirt. On the other hand, the Frenchman decided to leave on loan in January after not being able to get into the team.
