Diogo Dalot sets his Manchester United targets for the 2022/23 campaign
Diogo Dalot has set himself worthy targets at Manchester United for the new season. The Portuguese wants to give his all on the pitch and become a valuable member of the squad in the process.
Dalot joined the Red Devils back in 2018 from FC Porto. The 23-year-old played a considerable role in the previous campaign for United under Ralf Rangnick.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Dalot lays out his ambitions before the first game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion. The Portuguese wants to contribute to the team even more in the long season ahead.
“I set my targets and it’s always about trying to help the team as much as I can.
“That’s what I work hard for every day. [I want] to be an option for the manager and I always want to step up my game.
“I always want to be better than what I was before and this season I want to step up my game individually.
“Collectively, hopefully, we can reach the end of the season with some trophies.”
Dalot’s debut season at United saw him play a decent number of games for the club after being sidelined initially due to an injury. But the 2019/20 campaign was a letdown. The 23-year-old rarely featured for the side.
The Portuguese spent the season before last on loan at AC Milan. Dalot became a key member of the Italian giants’ squad. He came back to Manchester, having played considerable minutes for the Serie A club.
But having come back to Manchester, the 23-year-old’s season did not look promising. Initially under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the 2021/22 campaign, the Portuguese spent most of his time on the United bench.
It wasn’t until Rangnick was appointed manager that Dalot got his chance. The 23-year-old then had a consistent run of games. It seemed the gaffer preferred him over Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
With the new season upon us, Erik ten Hag seems keen to follow suit. Dalot has started under the Dutch manager in most of the pre-season games. The former Crystal Palace defender has gotten minutes in the friendlies coming off the bench.
