Manchester United leading the race for Benjamin Sesko but face further competition
Manchester United are leading the race for RB Salzburg centre-forward Benjamin Sesko. But the Red Devils know they need to be fast in their pursuit with two other clubs interested in the 19-year-old.
As per Fabrizio Romano via mufcmpb on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), United are the frontrunners in the pursuit of Sesko. The Old Trafford side have been ahead of the competition for more than a week.
The Italian transfer guru on Twitter also claims that two other unnamed sides are vying for the Salzburg striker’s signature. United know they need to be quick to get the 19-year-old’s signing over the line. Sesko is set to make a decision on his future soon.
The Slovenian had an impressive 2021/22 season. It was sort of a breakout campaign for the youngster who was given a considerable amount of minutes on the pitch.
Sesko made 36 appearances for the Austrian Bundesliga champions in all competitions last season. The 19-year-old ended the campaign with 10 goals and seven assists for Salzburg.
The Slovenia international also boasts 13 caps for the national side. The tall, fast and strong centre-forward is one of the most sought-after prospects in world football right now.
United go into the 2022/23 season with no real quality as on the bench for the central role up top. Cristiano Ronaldo is the only trustworthy player who can play as an out-and-out striker in the squad with some impact.
Anthony Martial has played well during the pre-season. But the previous campaign was a letdown and the Frenchman struggled for form. Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho aren’t natural centre-forwards and playing them out of position should be a last resort.

If Sesko comes in, he’ll provide Erik ten Hag security in the attacking positions. While still a young prospect, the Slovenian has all the qualities to be a starter for United in the future.
