AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho targeting reunion with Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof
Manchester United central defender Victor Lindelof has become a target for the AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho this transfer window, according to Forza Roma (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Swedish international is on the Portuguese manager’s radar. The 28-year-old played under the former United boss during Mourinho’s stint in Manchester.
The Red Devils have made a couple of defensive signings this summer. Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez have been added to Erik ten Hag’s squad during the transfer window to bolster the backline.
With Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane also in the side, Lindelof’s place in the XI feels uncertain. And the Serie A club are keeping an eye on the developments.
After arriving at United in the summer of 2017, the Sweden international has been a key member of the team under every manager. With the arrival of Varane last season, fans felt the 28-year-old would lose his place in the side.
But the World Cup winner with France had his issues in his debut campaign in a red shirt. Thus, Lindelof still played a major part last season due to Varane’s injuries and continued to be an important player under Ralf Rangnick.
The Manchester-based club did not have the best of campaigns in terms of conceding goals in the Premier League. The United backline looked shaky and only David de Gea’s heroics was a big reason behind us managing at least a sixth-placed finish.
Ten Hag has arrived in the Old Trafford dugout and Martinez has followed him through the doors from Ajax. The Dutch manager trusted the Argentine in Amsterdam for three seasons.

Lindelof is a decent backup option to have in the side. With Maguire’s poor form and Varane’s injury troubles, keeping the Swedish in the squad will be a wise move from United.
