Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United exploring a deal for RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko
Manchester United are ‘still exploring’ a deal for RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter. The Red Devils have talked with the player’s camp about a possible move this summer.
United have the centre-forward on their list at the moment. No official bid has been made for the 19-year-old as of yet. The Austrian side aren’t keen on selling their prospect this summer either.
Salzburg have a clear plan for Sesko. They want the Slovenian to continue at the club for the upcoming campaign before considering a possible sale in 2023. This makes the transfer tricky for the Old Trafford side.
The promising attacker was a revelation last season in the Austrian Bundesliga. Featuring in 24 league games, the centre-forward scored five goals and provided three assists. Overall, the 19-year-old ended the campaign with 10 goals and seven assists in all competitions.
Sesko has 13 caps for his senior national side. While fans might feel the numbers aren’t anything special, there is still a long career ahead of the Slovenia international.
Our attack in the previous campaign lacked any sort of impact. Only Cristiano Ronaldo scored a decent number of goals for us. The rest of our forwards failed to get on the scoresheet regularly.
United lacked creativity in the final third as well. Bruno Fernandes had a frustrating season and looked lost on the pitch on occasions. There were times when Ronaldo had to drop deep to create chances for the team.
The Red Devils weren’t the best of sides when it came to set-pieces either in the previous campaign. The 1.95m towering forward is a presence in the box.

Sesko may not be the ready-made 20-goal-a-season forward at the moment, there certainly is potential in the Slovenian. The 19-year-old isn’t a guaranteed starter for Erik ten Hag, but having another attacker in the squad will only strengthen the depth of the squad.
