Watford discussing a season-long loan move for Manchester United youngster Ethan Laird
Manchester United youngster Ethan Laird could be on his way out on loan once again before the start of next season with Watford in discussions with the Old Trafford side, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required).
The Hornets were relegated from the Premier League last season. The Hertfordshire-based club are in the market for a right-back and United’s 20-year-old is an option for them.
Watford have started talks with the Red Devils over a potential season-long loan deal for Laird. If the move happens, the 20-year-old will play in the Championship.
The United academy product spent a fruitful spell in the previous campaign at Swansea. The young right-back became an important part of the side in South Wales. But the Red Devils recalled him halfway through his loan spell.
What was surprising was that Laird was sent out on loan again in January to AFC Bournemouth. But the 20-year-old didn’t get enough opportunities to play for the Cherries.
Currently, the Manchester-based club have two first-team options for the right-back spot. Diogo Dalot played a major part in the side last season. The Portuguese put in a decent shift for the Red Devils.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka also featured in 25 games last season. The former Crystal Palace man has lost his place as a regular in the starting XI.
Fans weren’t convinced by either of the two playing at right-back last season. Our defence was in disarray. And both our full-backs not being up to the mark didn’t help the cause.

Laird is still young and has a lot to learn. Fans would like to see the 20-year-old be given a chance instead of the other options in the squad. But if he does leave on loan, hopefully, the academy youngster comes back stronger and fights for a place in the side.
