Manchester United left-back Alex Telles has been linked with a move back to Portugal with FC Porto interested in him, according to Ekrem Konur via The United Stand (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Brazilian signed for the Red Devils from the Dragoes in 2020. Since then, the left-back has played second fiddle to Luke Shaw in the XI.

With the signing of Tyrell Malacia, Erik ten Hag has three options to choose from. The gaffer can’t play them all in the side. Thus, Telles is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

There is uncertainty around the Brazilian’s future at United. Porto are supposedly willing to take the left-back on loan with an option to buy.

Shaw has been a regular at Old Trafford for a while now. The England international signed from Southampton in 2014. The 27-year-old’s performances have led him to become a starter in Manchester.

But injuries have been an issue for the England international during his time at United. While Shaw has the qualities to be a regular in the XI, the Red Devils, he spends a considerable amount of time almost every season on the sidelines.

Telles has been given ample opportunities over the last two seasons but has failed to nail down a spot. The 29-year-old is decent going forward, but fans can’t overlook his defensive frailties.

Malacia has come in from Feyenoord. It remains to be seen how many games the Dutch left-back features in. With new signings coming to Manchester for the start of next season, it is unclear how Ten Hag accommodates every player in his XI.

Fans would argue that due to the injury issues in the squad, keeping another left-back would be a wise move. Telles might not get a lot of game time, but the season is long and an extra player or two could come in handy.
