Harry Maguire rejected a move to Barcelona in order to prove himself at Manchester United
The England international has had a tough time with the Red Devils. After moving to Old Trafford from the King Power Stadium in 2019, the centre-back has been underwhelming.
Last season, Maguire’s performances were below par and the 29-year-old drew a lot of criticism from the crowd. On occasions, England and United have been seen booing him.
Barcelona came in for the centre-back this summer, but Maguire wasn’t interested. The 29-year-old was ‘unmoved’ by the Catalan side’s approach. The England international wants to have a ‘successful season with United’. Thus, the former Leicester City defender told his agents to turn down any move.
Erik ten Hag has a tough season ahead considering the defensive frailties the Red Devils showed last season. Lisandro Martinez has been brought in from Ajax to reinforce the backline.
The pairing of Maguire and Varane seemed indecisive at times. But, with the Frenchman’s injuries, Victor Lindelof got regular minutes in the backline. And fans felt the Sweden international was much more solid when he played.
Spectators will hope Varane and Maguire get back to their best next season. But with the crowd on the England international’s back, it’ll be a much more challenging task.

It remains to be seen how Ten Hag uses the options he has at his disposal. Martinez is adept at playing in various positions, including the defensive midfield role. Hopefully, our captain gets the opportunity to prove his critics wrong.
