Unnamed Manchester United player was dropped from squad for friendly in Australia after being late for team meeting
An unnamed Manchester United player was dropped by Erik ten Hag for a friendly in Australia after they arrived late to team meetings twice, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) (h/t Metro).
The start dropped from the Dutch manager’s plans hasn’t been named. But the player was supposed to be used by Ten Hag in a game but was dropped entirely from the gaffer’s plans after the indiscretion.
There have been encouraging signs while the Red Devils have been on tour in Thailand and Australia. The performances have reflected certain changes in our style of play under the Dutch manager.
Ten Hag’s Ajax team played modern attacking football putting emphasis on retaining and keeping the ball. And the same intensity has been seen in the Old Trafford side’s friendlies up until now.
We’ve had positive results against Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Melbourne Victory. While the Aston Villa game revealed some frailties, the performance nonetheless reflected good things.
Ten Hag has put immense significance on being punctual. Fans have also been excited with how the Dutch manager has trained the side in his initial days at the club. And all of this has been reflected during the friendlies.
Sir Alex Ferguson was a similar character in the dressing room. The United legend was known to be hard on his players. David Beckham, Roy Keane and Jaap Stam, among others, had all felt the Scottish legend’s wrath.
Ten Hag seems to be bringing the same principles back to Manchester. The Red Devils’ standards have dropped since Ferguson left the dugout in 2013.
