Jorge Mendes offered Manchester United striker, Cristiano Ronaldo to Barcelona
According to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs on Twitter, Manchester United star, Cristiano Ronaldo was offered to Barcelona by his agent Jorge Mendes. It has been no secret that the star striker has been linked with a move away from the club. The 37-year-old appears ready to take a pay cut if the right club comes calling.
The Portuguese striker’s agent, Jorge Mendes would be on the lookout for leftover clubs in the transfer market after a few elite teams rejected the opportunity to sign him. He has been busy in negotiations with potential suitors even if he hasn’t tasted success until now.
However, Jacobs has revealed that the agent took a different step this time by pitching his client’s name to a club that would have been imaginable for an ex-Real Madrid player to join. The super agent offered Ronaldo to Barcelona even before they got their hands on Robert Lewandowski.
Ben Jacobs revealed that the agent had considered accepting the Blaugrana’s financial issues. The journalist also claimed that the striker was ready to take a huge 30% wage cut which sums up the fact that his agent would have tried his best to convince him to move to Camp Nou.
However, the veteran would have alienated a once adoring Los Blancos fanbase had he joined the Blaugrana. Ronaldo played for Real Madrid between 2009-18 in which the world witnessed him put on a titanic struggle against Barcelona and Lionel Messi. It would have been highly unlikely for the player to join them as he was deemed as a legendary player at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The striker was also linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, however, the Spanish club distanced themselves from the move. The 37-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down as he scored 24 goals for the Red Devils last season.
It showed that he would be ready to give his best to help a team win titles, however, he would not like the fact that the club was solely dependent on him. Erik ten Hag has Ronaldo in his plans and has maintained his ‘No Sale’ stance until now.
The Dutch manager has made it clear that he wants the Portuguese striker to stay and be an important player in his squad. However, as the transfer window moves faster, more updates would be expected to come up on the striker’s future.
