Ajax Amsterdam keen to sign Manchester United right-back Ethan Laird
According to Dutch journalist Gerjan Hamstelaar (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ajax want to sign talented Manchester United right-back Ethan Laird this summer.
It is being claimed that the Eredivisie champions want to use the good working relationship with Man United to try and sign talented Red Devils starlet. They are keen to bolster their right-back position for next season.
The two clubs have had significant business between them, especially this summer. Whether Laird will be the man to swap one club for the other remains to be seen.
Lisandro Martinez is a player we bought from Ajax this summer. Even in the past, we have signed players like Donny van de Beek from them whilst also selling Daley Blind crossed the chasm twice, one to either side.
Noussair Mazraoui left Ajax on a free transfer at the end of last season and the Eredivisie giants want to sign a new player for the right-back position. Ethan Laird presents them with the perfect opportunity to do just that.
The English right-back who is just 20 years old perfectly fits the Ajax profile and he could be the perfect signing for them. If Man United do not want to part ways with him permanently, they can always look to loan him out.
The talented full-back spent this season out on loan initially at Swansea City and then at Bournemouth for the latter part of the season. In 27 matches for both clubs, the 20-year-old managed to provide four assists across all competitions.
Laird can be considered expendable with the club probably looking to sign another right-back this summer. A move to Ajax would be the perfect launchpad for the youngster to develop his game.
