Former Manchester United star Edinson Cavani closing in on a Villarreal switch
According to the Sun, former Manchester United star Edinson Cavani is set to move to La Liga and play for Unai Emery’s Villarreal next season.
The former PSG man spent the last two seasons at Old Trafford and left the club on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract. Cavani had a great first season with Man United but his second season was curtailed by injuries.
Cavani is a legend of the game and has performed exceptionally at different clubs during his career. At 35, he looks set for his next adventure with the Uruguayan striker wanting to play in the Spanish top flight next up.
With a World cup coming up in a few months’ time, the veteran striker will want to continue playing in Europe as he looks to build up to speed for the mega event in Qatar and help Uruguay win the coveted competition.
Cavani is undoubtedly a talented striker who still has a lot to offer. He can be of great utility to Unai Emery’s side. However, injuries have not been kind to him at all in recent years with the player struggling to remain fit.
Villarreal also find themselves in the Conference League next season which could be a reason why Cavani is considering this option. He could play for the Spanish club for one season after which he can make a decision on his future.
