Erik ten Hag provides his assessment of Manchester United’s comfortable victory against Crystal Palace
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has spoken on the improvements expected from his team after they cruised past Crystal Palace with a win. Although the Red Devils were able to secure a 100% result in the ongoing preseason games, the manager believes they still need to work on their pressing game.
United have been looking silky while passing the ball ahead which would have been possible due to their ability to maintain possession. The front three would be happy with their aggressive pressing which helped their team control the tempo of the game.
Fans would have the least points to argue as of now, but the manager has himself pointed out that the players would need to work on their timings when they press their opponents. Ten Hag was considerably impressed by the second goal and the manner through which the team showed its efforts.
However, speaking to MUTV, the former Ajax manager wasn’t shy about providing an in-depth answer on the desired improvements. He said:
“I agree [that we are winning the ball higher up in the field in dangerous positions] and that is also the demand on the team. We press all day and, if we can, do that high up the pitch. But if we can’t, we get to do that in a lower block but we also have to press and do it together as a team.”
Even though Erik ten Hag’s tactical approach would be a big talking point, the players deserve credit for getting their past season horrors behind them. Manchester United fans would expect this side to maintain their level of play and start the new season with confidence.
Manchester United currently have three more friendly matches awaiting them. The next one would be against Premier League foes, Aston Villa before they head out to play an intense match against Atletico Madrid.
The match against Rayo Vallecano would be the final one before they welcome Brighton for the first Premier League game of the season.
