Manchester United are interested in Brentford star Ivan Toney
According to The Daily Mirror, Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Brentford’s Ivan Toney this summer. The Red Devils are not the only club in the race as Leeds United, Newcastle United, and West Ham United are all keen to add him to their ranks.
The English striker was an emerging player for the Bees. The 26-year-old found the net 14 times and also chipped in a further six assists. He has done well under Thomas Frank and his promise is there for all to see.
Toney was a journeyman of sorts enjoying several loan spells earlier in his career. His exploits in the third tier of English football saw him being signed by the bees in 2020. He has been a revelation under Thomas Frank and his total tally of 43 goals in 78 appearances speaks volumes.
Manchester United’s chances of signing the striker would depend on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial. While the former has been linked with a move away, the latter has been training with Erik ten Hag in the ongoing preseason games.
However, Ivan Toney would still be a smart addition to the Dutch manager. Newcastle United’s coach Eddie Howe would be looking to add a new striker after the club failed to land Reims striker Hugo Ekitike. Leeds United would also welcome the idea of signing a new striker to partner Patrick Bamford.
The English striker has three years left on his contract and that leaves the bees in a superior position. However, Thomas Frank would expect at least one bid to arrive before the transfer window ends.

Toney works extremely hard while pressing and possesses good aerial skills, both qualities that ten Hag would love to have in his strikers. However, it remains to be seen, whether United would try to place their first bid for the 26-year-old this summer.
