According to Sky Sports Italia (h/t The Mirror), Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma have secured the signing of Paulo Dybala, defeating Manchester United in the race.

After joining Juventus from Palermo in 2015, Dybala amassed 115 goals and 48 assists in 293 games for the Turin giants. During his tenure at the Allianz Stadium, he won five Serie A championships and four Coppa Italia trophies and frequently played in the UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United were interested in signing Dybala following the uncertainty in the future of Cristiano Ronaldo. Apart from United, Tottenham Hotspur were also interested. But it seems Jose Mourinho has beaten both his former teams in the race.

It is believed that the striker now has agreed to a three-year deal with Roma where he will earn £5 million (€6m) a year. A free transfer is about to happen and all the paperwork is ready.

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says that Mourinho had a significant role in Dybala’s choice to go to the Italian city because the 59-year-old personally called the player to outline his plan.

The uncertainty surrounding Ronaldo’s future with the Red Devils has made the supporters concerned about the future choices of Ten Hag. There was already a dearth of talent in the Man United frontline, Ronaldo’s potentially impending departure would make that worse as he has stated his intention to leave.

It makes sense that our current priority is getting the Portuguese talisman to stay with us. However, to be able to deal with a situation where Ronaldo inevitably leaves during the summer transfer window, we must also plan for the worst-case scenario.

At his best, Dybala is undoubtedly a fantastic choice because of his exceptional ability to both create opportunities and pose a goal-scoring threat. However, His decision to remain in Italy appears to have put an end to United’s interest in him.

Manchester United should look for other alternatives in the market as Dybala has already made his choice and it’s in our best interest to look for solutions rather than emphasise the problem. So it remains to be seen what transfer decision the Red Devils board makes.
