Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong will only consider Bayern Munich move
According to Spanish publication Sport, Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong is adamant that he will only leave Barcelona if the opportunity arises for him to sign with Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window.
It’s possible for Frenkie de Jong to feel like he is being blamed for Barcelona’s financial problems and FFP troubles. The pulling of the economic levers has helped the Catalan giants’ problems ease up a little. However, Barcelona won’t be able to sign the new players unless they reduce their payroll and sell a few players.
The Dutchman is one of Barcelona’s most precious assets and is also entitled to increased pay beginning with the 2022–23 season after Barcelona agreed to delay payment of his wages due to their financial difficulty. On top of that, the Blaugrana still owes him roughly €17 million in wages.
Given that he is among the finest in his position, it is not unexpected that the Dutch midfielder has plenty of suitors this summer. However, despite the fact that United are prepared to make him a lucrative contract, De Jong has been reluctant to transfer to Old Trafford.
The 25-year-old will still prefer to stay at Camp Nou, but if his situation at FC Barcelona becomes worse, he will push to join Bayern Munich.
Erik ten Hag was De Jong’s coach at Amsterdam, where he displayed some of his best play. A player who is adept at too many things for his own good can benefit from the Dutch tactician’s knowledge of how to maximise his abilities.
A move to Manchester United, where he may rejoin ten Hag, might be exactly what de Jong needs to develop into the player he can be. Very few people can bet against the Dutchman being one of the finest players in the Premier League if he performs at his peak level at Old Trafford.
Man United’s current midfield is average, to say the least. Even though we still don’t know what formation ten Hag will use, the Dutch manager appears to be facing a significant challenge given the team’s dearth of talent.

De Jong, though, could resolve many of his problems. But considering he doesn’t want to move to United, it might be best for the team to opt for other targets.
