Erik ten Hag remains coy about Manchester United’s Frenkie de Jong pursuit
Speaking in an interview as quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the new Manchester United manager remains coy about the pursuit of talented Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, refusing to comment on his future.
Man United’s interest in de Jong has been evident for quite some time now with the talented midfielder linked with a move to the Premier League. Erik ten Hag has worked with the midfielder previously at Ajax and knows everything about him.
A very talented midfielder, De Jong at his best is almost unplayable. He is excellent at carrying the ball, has a great pass, can help in defence and can also pop inside the box at times and get at the end of crosses.
De Jong’s time at Amsterdam was exceptional as he made the top clubs in Europe take notice of him with his performances. The same cannot be said about his time in Spain where there is a feeling that the 25-year-old hasn’t performed to the levels expected of him.
The Dutch superstar joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 in a move that drew a lot of eyeballs at the time. Contrary to what some may think, de Jong has had a very decent time in Spain but it could have been better.
Even this season, the 25-year-old has had a very decent time under Xavi Hernandez. Frenkie has played 45 times for the Catalan club this season scoring four goals and providing five assists across all competitions.
Speaking about Man United’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong, Erik ten Hg refused to comment on the player and played it safe.
“Frenkie de Jong? I never talk of players who are under contract with other clubs. I’m not gonna answer about Frenkie”
It has been a while since the Red Devils were linked with de Jong- that is no secret. The time it is taking would worry some. Clubs around are getting business done and fast- Manchester City and Liverpool, for example, have already signed a couple of players each.
